There's nothing we love to see more than a sparkling Hollywood bromance form before our very eyes.
We very much might have our next one in new 'Moon Knight' co-stars Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke.
In an interview with Esquire this week, Isaac mentioned how he brought the project to Hawke in a very casual way - by walking up to him on a New York street while he was waiting on a coffee.
"Ethan Hawke lives around the corner from me. When I saw him at this coffee shop I thought he would be perfect and I walked up to him and I told him I was a huge fan of his work. And [I asked him] would he like to be the bad guy in a Marvel show."
Hawke corroborated the story in a BBC Radio 1 interview.
"I had actually been developing a strange little movie with Mohamed Diab and he and to pull out. He zoomed me and said 'hey I have to drop out of this movie I just got hired to do a Marvel movie.' And I said well you have to do that, man, call me when it's over. And he said see 'you in a couple of years.'"
"Then, the next day I'm at a coffee shop, masked up. A coffee shop in New York during the pandemic means your standing freezing outside waiting to get it. I didn't even recognise Oscar because he had his mask on. So a stranger said to me 'I love you in 'The Good Lord Bird'', then I realised it was Oscar. And then he started talking about ['Moon Knight'] and I didn't even put it together that it might be the same one that Mohamed was doing.
"So I said, 'well if you're for real, tell him to offer me the job and I'll do it.' I hadn't even read anything, I was like 'Moon Knight? That sounds awesome.' I went home and later that afternoon, I was offered the show and I just said yes."
The two now star in the newest Marvel comic adaptation and more stories of their friendship are starting to come out of the woodwork. Including one very interesting tale of them getting high on mushrooms in Hungary while filming the show. Here's an excerpt from the Esquire interview, which goes into poetic detail about the trip:
"Isaac and Ethan Hawke at a lake in Hungary, on a break from Moon Knight rehearsals. They are tripping on mushrooms, lying in the grass, soaking in the sun. A live Phosphorescent album plays in the background, maybe on somebody’s phone. Everything is expansive, glowing, harsh lines melting and sun a cascade of light falling like stars. Oscar is floating again, back in the ocean, back at home in his mother's house. He is somewhere between ascent and free fall, in that suspended place where the imagination rises to make contact with the divine. The music: soaring and aching, steady and gentle. The deep thrum of the bass, the reverb, the hush in the crowd audible even from this place."
Sounds like a fun night was had by all, man. We're looking forward to more tales about this blossoming friendship jumping forth into the ether soon.
Episode one of 'Moon Knight' is out now on Disney+, with new episodes every Wednesday.
