The first trailer for the second season of 'Star Trek: Discovery' has landed online after debuting at San Diego Comic Con this weekend.
The final shot of the last episode of the series saw none other than the USS Enterprise appear from warp in front of the Discovery, with Captain Christopher Pike - played by 'Hell On Wheels' star Anson Mount - in command.
If the trailer's anything to go by, it looks like they're picking it up from literally moments after the ending of Season 1 with Pike taking command of Discovery and setting off on a new adventure that'll bring in Spock - who's been alluded to, but never actually seen on screen so far in this series.
As well as dropping the trailer at San Diego Comic Con, it was also announced that Rebecca Romijn is set to play Number One. Who's that, you ask?
Well... (deep-breath)... the first pilot episode of 'Star Trek' back in 1965 saw a completely different crew aboard the Enterprise. Christopher Pike was the original captain and Spock wasn't first officer - it was a woman known only as Number One and played by Majel Barrett (who'd later go on to voice the computer in 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' and play Deanna Troi's mother).
Just call me “Number One!” Honored to play such an iconic character in #StarTrek Canon originally played by the First Lady of Star Trek, Majel Barrett-Roddeberry! #StarTrekDiscovery pic.twitter.com/rdpWOxBYAk

Anyway, the pilot episode - called 'The Cage' - was later reused for another episode later in the series called 'The Menagerie', with another pilot episode being commissioned with Kirk, Spock and the rest of the crew we know from 'Star Trek'.
As 'Star Trek: Discovery' is set many years before 'Star Trek', it makes sense that Pike and Number One are in command of the Enterprise and not Kirk and Spock. Is anyone still there? Hello?
'Star Trek: Discovery' arrives on Netflix in early 2019.
