The MCU and DC empire has dominated blockbuster season for many years now - but it's about time we had a parody to set things straight.
HBO have green-lit a new comedy TV series that will spoof the superhero universe.
It's called 'The Franchise' and will star British actor Himesh Patel ('Yesterday', 'Station Eleven') and Aya Cash ('The Boys') in a storyline that goes behind-the-scenes of a fictional superhero movie.
The blurb reads: "The crew of an unloved franchise movie fight for their place in a savage and unruly cinematic universe. The Franchise shines a light on the secret chaos inside the world of superhero moviemaking, to ask the question — how exactly does the cinematic sausage get made? Because every fuck-up has an origin story."
Jessica Hynes, Billy Magnussen, Lolly Adefope, Darren Goldstein, Isaac Powell, Richard E. Grant and Daniel Brühl will also co-star.
Perhaps more exciting is the team behind it: Armanda Iannucci ('The Thick of It', 'Veep') and Jon Brown ('Succession', 'Veep') will write the script, while Bond director Sam Mendes will direct.
The pilot had been filmed before the SAG Writer's Strike, but production is on hold for the series until the strike is over.
