The teaser trailer for Guillermo del Toro's 'Pinocchio' has landed, giving us a peak into the dark and spellbinding version of the age-old tale.
Based on the Carlo Collodi children's novel, the Oscar-winning director has definitely put his own take on the story. His signature dark style and leanings towards the fantastical are clear to see from the trailer.
The stop-motion film is del Toro's first dive into animation, but the world he's created already looks fleshed out. The Mexican director's gothic style works very well with the tale itself. From previous movies 'The Shape of Water' and 'Pan's Labrynth', we know what to expect.
In the trailer, we hear Ewan McGregor, who voices Sebastian J. Cricket, the movie's narrator. He tells us the story of Geppetto (David Bradley), who builds a wooden boy in the likeness of his late son.
The rest of the wonderful cast include Greggory Mann as Pinocchio, Christoph Waltz as Count Volpe, Tilda Swinton as the Fairy with Turquoise Hair, Finn Wolfhard as Candlewick, and Ron Perlman as Podestà.
As well as del Toro's version coming to Netflix, there is also another, very different, 'Pinocchio' in the works at Disney. The live-action film stars Tom Hanks as Geppetto and the trailer shows the two movies are miles away in comparison.
