"I believe it’ll be sometime this summer."
It seems we could be getting 'The Mandalorian' season three earlier than expected, if we're to believe news from the main antagonist of the sci-fi/western series.
Giancarlo Esposito, who has played warlord Moff Gideon for the first two seasons, has revealed that the follow-up will hit Disney+ this summer. Asked when fans will be getting more Mando/Moff action, he said during a 'Better Call Saul' junket for the Netflix show's final season: "You’ll get it soon.
"I’ve got a little few things to do in regard to that, to put some finishing touches on what I do. I believe it’ll be sometime this summer, no date set yet, but coming soon."
Hopefully, we can take what Giancarlo Esposito is saying as gospel, but it's important to note that it might be a little later in the year when 'The Mandalorian' season three actually begins. Carl Weathers, who plays Greef Karga, previously said that the season only wrapped up production in March. Given the amount of special effects used in the series, plus the fact that Esposito says he still has some "things" to do before it airs, and a summer release might be extremely ambitious.
However, we're just going to have to wait and see. Disney has no concrete release date fixed for the series yet, which is presumed because they're waiting for 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' to launch first. Both Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen will return to the franchise, reprising their roles as the titular Jedi Master and the entire franchise's most revered foe, Anakin Skywalker AKA Darth Vadar.
This series will launch two days later than originally planned, on May 27.
Catch Giancarlo Esposito next in 'Better Call Saul' season six on Netflix, which begins with Part One on April 19. It was revealed earlier in the week that more 'Breaking Bad' stars will appear in the final season.
