In case this wasn't clear already, let's put this in black and white - prank shows are the f*cking worst.
You're having fun at someone else's expense, it's the laziest type of television, and honestly, aren't there enough of them out there already? Not only that, some of the concepts out there are just downright mean-spirited.
One such prank show that's currently being touted by Netflix, however, sounds like the actual cesspit of humanity. 'Prank Encounters', which is being fronted by 'Stranger Things' alum Gaten Matarazzo, follows people in their first day of work being messed with. Y'know, for the LOLs.
Per the report from Deadline, "(it's) business as usual until their paths collide and these part-time jobs turn into full-time nightmares." Now, here's why this is an absolutely awful idea.
For one thing, the first day of any job is terrifying on its own because it's your first day. You don't know fully what you're doing, you're trying to make a good impression, you need this job and you need to know that you can do it. But, hey, it turns out it's all just a prank show.
Not only that, the really weird / angry / whatever customer who was making your life hell? Just a prank. So yeah, f*ck this show.
Gaten Matarazzo, who's acting as an executive producer on the show as well, should most definitely fire his managers and / or agents for putting him in for this. He might be 16, but the fact is that anyone with a bit of common sense would tell you this is an awful idea for a show that nobody would want to watch, take part in, or have anything to do with it.
Needless to say, the reaction online has been almost unanimously negative, so here's hoping Netflix just pulls the plug on this before it goes any further.
That new prank show with Gaten Matarazzo reminds me of when Jason Mantzoukas almost was in a nightmarish prank show about ppl trying to find an apartment https://t.co/iWUWsAwTVZ
