It really does speak to where Eurovision has gone that we spent a good ten minutes listening to this over and over, trying to initially see if it was Rachel McAdams singing and then determining that it sounds pretty decent.
In fact, you could easily imagine this being the real-life Icelandic entry to Eurovision, complete with very naff and earnest music video, the Eurodance singing, the invocation of national culture in odd ways, it's all there. Basically, the rule of thumb for Eurovision is if you can imagine it being blasted at you over the speakers in the gym.
To be fair to Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams (if it is them singing), if the whole acting thing doesn't work out for them, they could easily parlay this whole schtick into a decent enough musical act that could tour lots of sketchy dance festivals in Central Europe.
'Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga' lands on Netflix on June 26th, so expect to see a full trailer in the next week or two. For the moment, here's the official music video for 'Volcano Man', by Lars Erickssong and Sigrit Ericksdottir.
