The search is over for who will play Miss Trunchbull in the Netflix reinterpretation of the Roald Dahl classic.
Glorious Oscar winner Emma Thompson has been cast as the ever-unstable Miss Trunchbull in Netflix's musical version of the book and movie. The positively revolting character, who is the headmistress of Crunchem Hall Primary School, was first made famous on-screen by Pan Ferris in the 1996 family film.
In the original 'Matilda' movie, Trunchbull is the step-aunt of Matilda's ever-hopeful school teacher Miss Honey. She's the main antagonist of the fantasy adventure (alongside Danny DeVito, Rhea Perlman, and Brian Levinson as Matilda's Wormwood family).
And we have to say, we're pretty excited about this casting. Thompson has been a firm movie favourite for years, having played iconic roles in 'Sense and Sensibility', 'Harry Potter', 'Love Actually', and 'Nanny McPhee'. We can't wait to see what she brings to the movie as this fierce and brutal childish nightmare.
Alongside Emma Thompson's casting, the role of who will play the title character of Matilda has also been announced. Newcomer Alisha Weir will play the role of the magical and booksmart Matilda, who was originally played by Mara Wilson.
Just a number of weeks ago, the first casting announcement for the Netflix's musical was revealed. The role of Miss Honey will be played by 'Captain Marvel' and 'No Time To Die' actor Lashana Lynch.
Heavily influenced by Roald Dahl's 1988 source material, as well as the stage version, Netflix's 'Matilda' musical will be directed by Matthew Warchus. Warchus was also in charge of the West End production that has gone on to great success (and featured a dragged-up version of Miss Trunchbull too). Tim Minchin, who wrote the music and lyrics for the musical, is also on board for this revamped movie version.
