Less than a week after the movie's debut on Disney+ and Hulu, the comedy has been greenlit for a second outing with John Cena and co.
'Vacation Friends' has landed a sequel movie thanks to drawing in some very impressive viewing figures for Hulu and Disney+ over its opening weekend.
Launching in North America via the streaming service Hulu, and here in Ireland and Europe via Star on Disney+, Deadline reports that the 20th Century Studios comedy has become the most-watched original movie on the streaming platform.
The 'Vacation Friends' sequel will see writer and director Clay Tarver return to helm the project, which will be titled 'Honeymoon Friends'.
In case you haven't already streamed the movie, it stars Lil Rel Howery and Yvonne Orji as a couple who make friends with a party couple while on holiday in Mexico, played by John Cena and Meredith Hagner. They end up getting themselves caught up in all manner of debauchery as a "foursome" before saying goodbye at the end of their trip. But little do they know that that won't be the last time they'll meet their new holiday friends.
While we thought the laughs in 'Vacation Friends' were inconsistent, on the whole, it was a fairly decent comedy movie; John Cena and Lil Rel Howery were the highlights.
This news will be a great sign for those with a Disney+ subscription, as the streaming service ramps up its more adult-orientated content. Since the addition of Star on Disney+ earlier this year, the sub-category of the service has added a lot of new and throwback TV series and movies, including 'The Walking Dead', 'Solar Opposites', 'Summer Of Soul', 'The Golden Girls' and the new Steve Martin and Martin Short series, 'Only Murders In The Building'.
