In the age of prequels, reboots, and reunions - with various outcomes in terms of quality - here's one that we are 100% on board with.

George Lucas' 'Willow', a fantasy epic from 1988, will officially be getting the small screen treatment over at Disney. The 'Willow' sequel series will premiere on Disney+ at some point in the foreseeable future.

The original movie was directed by Ron Howard and starred an incredibly young Warwick Davis as Willow Ufgood, a young boy who is tasked with keeping a baby safe from the evil clutches of the evil Queen Bavmorda. Jean Marsh and Val Kilmer also starred in the tale.

The first rumblings of a Disney+ adaptation were heard in January of this year. In a statement released from Disney, it has been confirmed that Warwick Davis will indeed return to the role.

The events of this new adaptation will take place years after the events of the original film. All-new characters will be introduced to the enchanted realm of fairy queens and two-headed Eborsisk monsters, with the unmatchable Warwick Davis returning.

"So many fans have asked me over the years if Willow will make a return, and now I’m thrilled to tell them that he will indeed," says Davis.

"Many have told me they grew up with ‘Willow’ and that the film has influenced how they view heroism in our own world. If Willow Ufgood can represent the heroic potential in all of us, then he is a character I am extremely honoured to reprise."

We do know one other big name attached to the series, with 'Crazy Rich Asians' director Jon M. Chu lined up to helm the pilot episode. Jonathan Kasdan of award-winning documentary 'Solo' and Wendy Mericle from 'Arrow' will serve as showrunners. Bob Dolman, who was the writer of the original film, will also serve as a consulting producer on the project.

Chu had this to say about the 'Willow' sequel series: "Growing up in the’80s, ‘Willow’ has had a profound effect on me. The story of the bravest heroes in the least likely places allowed me, an Asian-American kid growing up in a Chinese restaurant looking to go to Hollywood, to believe in the power of our own will, determination and of course, inner magic. So the fact that I get to work with my heroes from Kathleen Kennedy to Ron Howard is bigger than a dream-come-true."
