Another of Disney+'s live-action comic book series is gearing up for production in the near future.
Created by Doug Moench and Don Perlin, the character of Moon Knight first appeared in 1975 in the comic book 'Werewolf by Night' number 32. And now, with his own successful series under his belt after 45 years, the caped superhero is finally getting his debut onto our screens.
Moon Knight uses high-tech weaponry, his expert martial-art skills, and his magnificent detective mind to solve cases and hand justice to the bad guys. There have been various reincarnations of the character, much like many of our superheroes, but his real name is Marc Spector, a Chicago-born Jewish-American.
The character has donned various aliases over the years - from taxi driver Jake Lockley to millionaire playboy Steven Grant. The most recent portrayal of the character sees him swap his usual black and white get-up for an all-white affair, going by the name Mr. Knight. Disney+ will likely have a plan in place for multiple seasons in the pipeline - or maybe a starring role in the Avengers movies at some point too.
If you haven't realised already, he's often been compared to another caped crusader - and one that's a lot more famous - DC's Batman (who has plenty more years head-start on this Marvel hero). but with a different origin story in place, and the right team, those parallels might wash away in this live-action series.
According to Deadline, Egyptian filmmaker Mohamad Diab has been head-hunted to helm Disney+ and Marvel's 'Moon Knight' action series. Diab is known for his directorial debut film 'Cairo 678', as well as for writing and directing 'Eshtebak' ('Clash'), which was an official selection at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.
Oscar Isaac (from 'Ex Machina' and playing En Sabah Nur in 'X-Men: Apocalypse') will take on the role of the title character. Jeremy Slater, who was a writer on Netflix's famed superhero series 'The Umbrella Academy' will be leading the writing team here.
