One of our favourite animations from the '90s is getting a reboot - but we're not too worried, as it seems to be in some seriously good hands.
Right, so, don't get yourselves so worried. While a 'Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers' reboot might not sound like a totally necessary thing we need to see right now, it does seem like it will be a lot of fun. The film, based on the late '80s and early '90s TV series is being made by Andy Samberg and his colleague from The Lonely Island.
'Rescue Rangers' ran for three seasons and saw chipmunks Chip and Dale start their own detective agency, where they recruited tech genius Gadget Hackwrench, the muscle Monterey Jack and his housefly sidekick Zipper. The adventurers solved various cases for other animals-in-need and often saw them up against arch-nemesis such as Mafia boss Fat Cat, and mad scientist Norton Nimnul.
The series also featured one of the best cartoon theme songs of all time, complete with '80s synth, saxophone, and infectious lyrics.
Fast forward over 30 years, and the series is getting an exclusive Disney+ reboot movie. Blending elements of live-action with animation (much like the new 'Tom & Jerry', we imagine) the 'Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers' reboot shared its first tease of production getting underway. The Lonely Island shared a picture of a clapperboard on Instagram with the caption "Oh snap".
Director Akiva Schaffer (known for various 'SNL' episodes over the years, 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine', and working on 'The LEGO movie' soundtrack) will helm the film. He and Andy Samberg make up two of the comedy trio The Lonely Island, so chances are there might be a new theme song in our midst.
Comedian John Mulaney will voice Chip in the movie, with Samberg as Dale. Corey Burton, who has voiced an incredible amount of characters from Disney's past, will voice Zipper. Seth Rogen is believed to also have a part in the live-action/animation feature, but no other big names are attached yet.
The 'Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers' reboot is scheduled for release on Disney+ in 2022.
And now, please enjoy this glorious throwback with the 'Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers' theme tune.
