Once upon a time, there was a brief period when society couldn't wait for the arrival of more 'Black Mirror' episodes for us to sink our teeth into. Well, that time is officially over.
Due to the alternate reality we all feel like we've been living in for the past few months, it appears that more 'Black Mirror' content is the last thing we all need right now - and series creator Charlie Brooker agrees.
The dystopian/futuristic TV series has enjoyed five series and a movie ever since debuting on Channel 4 back in 2001. Netflix took over the reins from season three onwards, with the most recent three episodes arriving during the summer last year. However, expectations on a sixth series arriving in the near future have been dashed by Brooker, who says that even he can't "stomach" working on new stories at the moment.
In an interview with Radio Times, Brooker says that he's been keeping his mind busy by working on much more positive writing. He said: "I don’t know what I can say about what I’m doing and not doing. At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I’m not working away on any of those ['Black Mirror' episodes].
"I’m sort of keen to revisit my comic skill set, so I’ve been writing scripts aimed at making myself laugh."
While we get that positive writing is most definitely what the world needs right now, it is disappointing to hear that more 'Black Mirror' won't be on the horizon soon. Although they are few and far between, there are a number of positive episodes in the anthology series, and we wouldn't mind a few more of those if you have time Brooker - episodes along the lines of 'San Junipero', 'Nosedive', or 'Hang the DJ', which have relatively "happy" endings - wouldn't go amiss.
