The upcoming British remake of the hit French comedy series will feature characters loosly based on their French counterparts.
Global hit 'Call My Agent!' is getting a UK version later this year. The original French series first hit the big time domestically on TV network TF1 before being picked up by Netflix and hitting a global audience.
This new English-language version, which is expected to hit Prime Video later this spring, is produced by Christian Baute and his company Headline Pictures in collaboration with Bron Studios for Amazon and Sundance Now.
According to Variety, Baute said he loved the original series and thought, "This is brilliant," and got in touch with TF1 to ensure he got the English-language rights.
He and his business partner David Davoli said they would only do an English-language version if it's as good as if not better than the original. Baute continued: "It was a bit of a niche format in terms of its popularity when we secured it. It wasn’t until we had greenlit our show and we were casting [that] it was almost like a perfect storm.
"It’s all inspired by true events," Baute says of the original,
Jack Davenport (who played James Norrington in 'Pirates of the Caribbean') will be part of the series, playing a senior agent of the agency, Jonathan. He said of the series: "There are times when as an audience member, you’ll be like, 'Jesus, this can’t be real?' I’m afraid it is."
Joining Davenport will be Jim Broadbent ('Moulin Rouge!'), Tim McInnerny ('The Serpent'), Prasanna Puwanarajah ('Patrick Melrose') and Maggie Steed ('Paddington 2').
Of course, as with the French series, there will be plenty of celebrity cameos set to make appearances in the upcoming first season. While the French version featured Monica Bellucci, Juliette Binoche and even Sigourney Weaver, 'Call My Agent!' UK will feature Helena Bonham Carter, Dominic West, David Oyelowo, Olivia Williams and Phoebe Dynevor, who will all play more fictionalized versions of themselves.
There are more 'Call My Agent' remakes in the pipeline all over the world, including Poland, Malaysia, South Korea and Indonesia.
