Nicole Kiman leads an all-star cast in a behind-the-scenes look at what life was like for Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz on the set of their hit sitcom.
Written and directed by Aaron Sorkin ('The Trial Of The Chicago 7'), Amazon Studios has shared its first 'Being The Ricardos' trailer.
Starring Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem as Hollywood actors Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, who were married for 20 years, the film will follow the couple during a production week while on the set of the black and white American sitcom 'I Love Lucy'.
The series ran for six seasons during the 1950s, and is often regarded as one of the most influential sitcoms for its portrayal of female relationships, breaking of societal norms of the time and its slapstick comedy. The show has been seen as a jumping-off point for numerous TV sitcoms to follow in its footsteps, and was even seen as a reference point for the beginning of Disney+'s 'WandaVision' from the beginning of the year.
Joining the film as supporting cast will be J.K. Simmons ('Whiplash'), Jake Lacy ('The White Lotus'), Nina Arianda ('Billions'), Tony Hale and Alia Shawkat (both of whom are from 'Arrested Development').
Speaking recently in Variety's Actors on Actors conversation, Kidman stated that the biopic will not be a remake of the '50s sitcom but will instead tackle themes like the couple's marriage and Arnaz being discriminated against due to him being Cuban: "The strange thing about Lucille Ball is that everyone thinks we’re remaking the ‘I Love Lucy’ show, and it’s so not that. It’s about Lucy and Desi and their relationship and their marriage. It’s very deep, actually."
