Zach Snyder's 'Army of the Dead' is getting a prequel movie, but it looks like there will only be some minor zombie action this time around.
The original action-packed apocalypse movie is swapping zombies for... er, more humans? 'Army of Thieves' looks to be a straight-up heist movie with plenty of action and adventure, set in the very early stages of the zombie apocalypse.
Only one member of the 'Army of the Dead' cast will be making their return for this prequel film, and that will be German actor Matthias Schweighöfer, who played the safe-cracker Dieter. 'Army of Thieves' will follow his character on a different escapade, as he attempts to crack safes all across Europe. Goodbye Vegas, hello Europe!
Joining Schweighöfer in the cast this time will be 'Game of Thrones' and 'Fast & Furious' star Nathalie Emmanuel. Ruby O. Fee, Stuart Martin, Guz Khan, and Jonathan Cohen will also have roles in the film.
Interestingly, Schweighöfer will also be directing the movie this time around. It'll be based on the original story by Zack Snyder and Shay Hatten (who also wrote the screenplay for the original). Schweighöfer, Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Dan Maag are all attached to produce.
The official description of the movie is as follows by Netflix: "In this prequel to Zack Snyder's 'Army of the Dead', small-town bank teller Dieter gets drawn into the adventure of a lifetime when a mysterious woman recruits him to join a crew of Interpol’s most wanted criminals, attempting to heist a sequence of legendary, impossible-to-crack safes across Europe."
Here are the first-look pictures from the prequel.
No release date has yet been set for 'Army of Thieves'. You can watch 'Army of the Dead', which released last May, with a Netflix subscription.
