'After Life' might be making a return to our screens sooner than expected.
The success of the first two seasons of 'After Life' meant a third season for the dramedy got the green light in recent weeks.
Its writer and star, Ricky Gervais, signed an overall multi-year deal with Netflix with a renewal of the series - as well as new scripted and stand-up specials - forming part of the deal.
Gervais plays Tony on the show, a man who is navigating life after his wife (played by Kerry Godliman), dies from breast cancer.
The actor-comedian previously expressed that he saw a lot of room for expansion of the characters and story.
The Sun (via The Mirror) reports we could be seeing the gang before the end of the year.
Word is Gervais is working on a one hour Christmas special, akin to one off seasonal specials we've seen for previous shows of his like 'The Office', 'Extras' and 'Derek'.
A source told the publication: “Ricky is a huge asset to Netflix as everything he writes essentially turns to gold.
“There is such a huge appetite for 'After Life' and it’s got a massive fan base.
"The third series won’t air until 2021 so there is a meeting in the diary to see if Ricky could create the Christmas special.”
Of course the only thing that could throw a spanner in the works is the current health crisis which has put several productions on hold. But with shooting for some film and TV projects starting up in the coming weeks, this will hopefully not prove a deterrent.
