Fans of Netflix series 'The OA' were very disappointed when the show got the axe after two seasons. But the good news is the team behind the series is putting together something new.
'The OA' creators Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij are reuniting for the series 'Retreat' for FX.
The show was announced during FX’s executive session at the virtual summer TCA press tour (via Deadline).
Marling, who was also the lead in 'The OA', plays a key role in 'Retreat' as Darby Hart.
She's a Gen Z amateur sleuth, attempting to solve a murder at a secluded retreat.
The series follows Darby and eleven other guests who are invited by a reclusive billionaire to participate in a retreat at a remote, snazzy location.
When a guest is found dead, Darby fights to prove it was murder. She's up against a tide of competing interests, and has to act before the killer takes another life.
Reportedly "a pretty good chunk of it" is set in an "ultra luxury hotel adjacent to a glacier in a very forbidding northern place."
Then another chunk "takes place in the desert."
Marling and Batmanglij will write and direct the series, having worked as frequent collaborators on other projects aside from 'The OA', such as the movies 'The Sound Of My Voice' and 'The East.'
FX Networks chairman John Landgraf said: "We absolutely loved what Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij came to us with, which is radical reconceptualisation of whodunit with a really, really original set of characters, particularly a really strong and original young woman at the center of the story whose back story and present-day story form a strong emotional core.
"There obviously is a mystery unfold too. It’s a distinctive and unique show that is not that easy to produce."
There are no details on when or where it will air in Ireland and the UK. But like other FX series, such as the upcoming 'Y: The Last Man', it could end up on Disney+.
