Fans who grew up reading the book series were sorely disappointed when Percy Jackson eventually made it to the big screen in 2010.
The two movies starring Logan Lerman and Alexandria D'addario were pretty awful and didn't do the series justice at all.
Ever since, the community of book-lovers have hoped and prayed that a reboot would come at some point in the near future. Finally, in 2020, they got some morsels of information that a live-action series with Disney was in the works.
However, they had to wait another two years until this week when the 'Percy Jackson' series has officially been greenlit by Disney Plus. Yes, it's actually happening this time.
Author Rick Riordan has been front and centre of trying to get a new adaptation up and running and he has shared his delight in the announcement.
"The wait is over, demigods. I am thrilled to be the first to tell you that Percy Jackson and the Olympians' is really, truly and for sure coming to your screens."
If you're not a day-one fan and don't know too much about the series, Disney describes it as:
"Geared towards a general audience and especially tweens, teens, and young adults, the live action series tells the fantastical story of a 12-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson, who’s just coming to terms with his newfound supernatural powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. Now Percy must trek across America to find it and restore order to Olympus."
Riordan and Jon Steinberg will write the pilot with James Bobin directing. There is no casting news or concrete dates just yet so fans will have to hold out for just a tad longer.
