Some movies and TV shows should never be touched - but then again, Hollywood struggles with originality sometimes (especially when they know it'll be a hit).

And so, news today comes in the form of Netflix tackling one of Roald Dahl's most famous creations. Their revamped 'Matilda' musical - based on the children's novel, 1996 movie of the same name, and the hit stage musical - has cast its first actor.

Playing the role of Miss Honey, who is Matilda's kind and understanding school teacher, will be British actor Lashana Lynch. The role was originally played by Embeth Davidtz in the '90s movie.

Lynch will be most recognisable for her roles in big blockbuster movies of late, the first of which being Maria Rambeau in Marvel's 'Captain Marvel' opposite Brie Larson.

The actor should also have been been on our screens by now in Bond's 'No Time To Die', as special agent Nomi, but that movie has been delayed until April (we'll believe it when we see it).

No other casting announcements have come from the 'Matilda' musical as of yet. The Netflix creation is being directed by Matthew Warchus, who was also the director of the stage version. Tim Minchin, who wrote the music and lyrics for the musical, is also on board for this revamped movie version.

'Matilda the Musical' has received a number of awards for its time on West End, Broadway, and its Australian production.

Expect more casting announcements to come in the near future - all eyes are firmly placed on who will play the hellish Miss Trunchbull. Given that Bertie Carvel, a man, took on the stage version persona of the principal, it'll be interesting to see which direction the casting team goes in.
