Netflix is doling out a lot of dough in order to get the two follow-ups to 'Knives Out.'
Released in 2019, 'Knives Out' was something of a sleeper hit when it hit cinemas. The movie reached audiences largely through positive word of mouth, and ended up making $311.4 million against a $40 million budget.
The mystery movie featured a terrific ensemble between Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Toni Collette, Lakeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford, and Christopher Plummer.
Previously, it was confirmed the movie would be getting a sequel, but there was no word of a start date.
Daniel Craig will return as detective Benoit Blanc. As he'll be solving a whole new mystery, the remaining members of the ensemble will likely change entirely.
Now Deadline reports that Netflix is closing in on a deal to make two sequels to 'Knives Out' which Rian Johnson, who wrote and helmed the original, will write and direct again.
Johnson will also produce with his partner Ram Bergman. They own and license the property.
Sources say that the deal Netflix is penning with the pair is in or around the $450 million mark.
That would make this deal, once closed, one of the biggest streamer movie deals in history.
Reportedly, it follows a discrete auction between Netflix, Apple and Amazon.
MRC distributed the first 'Knives Out' through Lionsgate.
Cameras will start rolling on its first sequel on June 28th in Greece. Casting will commence at once.
