Although 'WandaVision' just landed on Disney+ yesterday, Marvel Studios are pushing full steam ahead with other TV series.
One of the most intriguing of them so far has been 'Moon Knight', based on the comic-book character of the same name. As previously reported, Oscar Isaac is set to play the titular role, with THR now reporting that Ethan Hawke is set to play a role in the series, potentially as the lead villain.
THR's report, however, had no confirmation on which character Hawke would be playing. The four-time Oscar nominee recently finished filming on 'The Northman', Robert Eggers' historical thriller follow-up to last year's 'The Lighthouse'. The movie was partially filmed here in Ireland.
Meanwhile, the character of Moon Knight was first introduced in Marvel Comics in 1975, and was frequently criticised for being a carbon copy of DC's Batman, as both characters fought with boomerangs, were excellent detectives, and had alter egos.
Where Moon Knight differed, however, was that he gained his powers from an Egyptian sun god named Khonshu, and had multiple non-superpowered personalities. In later versions of the character, Moon Knight became much more humourous and drew some comparisons with Deadpool.
Hawke is definitely an odd choice for the role, as the actor has eschewed major productions and comic-book movies for indie dramas or prestige television, such as the recent miniseries 'The Good Lord Bird' opposite Wyatt Russell and 'Boyhood' co-star Ellar Coltrane.
No air date has been set for 'Moon Knight'.
