Deadline reports that Dakota Johnson is in talks to star in Sony's 'Madame Web', which has been in the works for a couple of years.
Sony Pictures are looking to expand on their universe of Marvel characters in the wake of the huge success of 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'.
Sony did well with last year's superhero (slash villian slash rom com?) flick 'Venom: Let There Be Carnage'.
The studio also has 'Morbius' on the way this summer.
Dakota Johnson's recent credits include 'The High Note' and Netflix drama 'The Lost Daughter', in which she stars opposite Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley.
Her upcoming credits include 'Cha Cha Real Smooth', 'Am I Ok?' and the lead role in an adaptation of Jane Austen's 'Persuasion'.
In the Marvel comics, Madame Web is is a mutant who possesses psychic sensory powers including telepathy, clairvoyance, and prescience.
The character is elderly, paralysed, blind, and is connected to a life support system that looked like a spider web.
Due to that state, she has never fought any villains but is rather a supporting character, helping Spider-Man for example.
Sources say that Sony wants to do something new with the project, turning Madame Web into someone like Doctor Strange.
