It's been rumoured for some time, but it's now official - Boba Fett will appear in the second season of 'The Mandalorian'.
THR reports that Temeura Morrison, who played Jango Fett in the prequel series and subsequently replaced the original voice of Boba Fett in the special edition of 'The Empire Strikes Back', has closed a deal to reprise his role in 'The Mandalorian'.
Fett was teased at the very end of the fifth episode of the first season, 'The Gunslinger', where his famous spurs appeared over the dead body of Fennec Shand, played by Ming-Na Wen. In the original trilogy, Boba Fett was played by Jeremy Bulloch and voiced by Jason Wingreen.
Although he only had a handful of lines in 'The Empire Strikes Back' and was unceremoniously killed off (or so everyone thought) in 'Return of the Jedi', Boba Fett has been one of the most identifiable figures in 'Star Wars', due to the Clint Eastwood-inspired helmet and cloak and the mystery surrounding the character. First introduced in an animated segment of 'The Star Wars Holiday Special', Boba Fett featured in countless spinoff comics, novels and games, as well as featuring in 'The Clone Wars' animated series as well.
The second season of 'The Mandalorian' has been building up its cast list quite nicely, with names like Michael Biehn and directors like Robert Rodriguez and Peyton Reed involved. Although Disney+ have not yet confirmed a return date, sources speaking to THR have identified October as the likely release date for Season 2.
Here's the trailer for the first season.
