Little by little, 'The Mandalorian' has been building up one of the most interesting cast and director lists out there for its second season.
As previously reported, Rosario Dawson is set to join, along with Michael Biehn, Temeura Morrison taking on the role of Boba Fett, Robert Rodriguez and Bryce Dallas Howard are both set to direct an episode, as is 'Ant-Man and the Wasp' director Peyton Reed.
/Film are now reporting that Kate Sackhoff, who people will know from the excellent remake of 'Battlestar Galactica', is set to reprise her role in live-action as Bo-Katan Kryze from 'The Clone Wars' animated series. In fact, the final scene of 'The Mandalorian' basically set it up that the character was going to have to feature in the second season somehow.
Obviously, don't read on if you haven't watched the final episode of the series, but here's the basic gist - the weapon that Giancarlo Esposito's character, Moff Gideon, used to cut himself out of the wreckage of his TIE fighter is called a Darksaber.
The Darksaber was wielded by whoever lead the Clan Vizla, and later a faction of Mandalorians called Death Watch. At one point in time, Darth Maul - yes, the guy who was cut in half in 'The Phantom Menace' - wielded it, before Bo-Katan Kryze - that's Kate Sackhoff's character - led the Republic to their home planet of Mandalore to oust Darth Maul and return the Darksaber to its rightful place.
Now, that's getting pretty technical and lore-heavy, but one thing that 'The Mandalorian' did so well was how economical and tight each and every episode was. There was a certain amount of sparseness to it that kept it light and interesting. Will that then mean that the second season is going in the opposite direction?
If it is, it's potentially going to lose a lot of the charm and crossover appeal it had in the first season.
Disney has not yet announced a return date for 'The Mandalorian', but it's understood the new season will arrive some time in October of this year.
