The 'Bird Box' challenge is the latest trend to sweep the internet.

Netflix have issued a statement to people who are thinking of participating in the 'Bird Box' challenge - don't do it.

The company tweeted, "Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE. We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes."

In 'Bird Box,' Sandra Bullock, John Malkovich, and the rest of the cast must blindfold themselves from seeing the monster manifestations. The picture of Bullock in a blindfold became quite a big meme over the Christmas season. People got creative, and created memes such as this one.

Now, it appears the meme has taken on a life of its own, to the point where viewers blindfolding themselves might be having a risk on people's safety. Despite Netflix's efforts however, The 'Bird Box' challenge has gone into overdrive.

There has also been plenty of YouTube videos of people taking part in the challenge.

While it might be all fun and games (for now), don't forget that around this time last year we faced possibly one of the worst trends to ever sweep the internet - people consuming liquid detergent. So, maybe 2019 won't be so bad after all?
