Fans of 'National Treasure' have two reasons to celebrate today as the franchise is getting two new entries.
First off, a third and final movie will round out the 'National Treasure' series with the cast of Nicolas Cage, Justin Bartha, and Diane Kruger set for a blockbuster return to cinemas. The script for 'National Treasure 3' is still in development over at Disney, but work is very much underway.
Producer of 'National Treasure' and 'National Treasure: Book of Secrets' Jerry Bruckheimer told Collider: "We’re certainly working on one ['National Treasure'] for streaming and we’re working on one for the big screen. [...] The one for theatrical would be the same cast."
Following on from that, the famed producer, who has brought the likes of 'Pirates of the Caribbean' and 'CSI: Miami' to us in the past, told the publication that a 'National Treasure' reboot series is also in active development over at Disney+. And this series seems further along than its movie counterpart, and will have a "much younger cast".
The producer said: "Hopefully, they’ll both come together and we’ll bring you another 'National Treasure', but they’re both very active… The one for Disney+ is a much younger cast. It’s the same concept but a young cast.
"The film version is being written right now. The television version is in process. We have a pilot script done and an outline of the future episodes."
Director of the first two entries in the action-adventure series, Jon Turtletaub, is expected to make a return for 'National Treasure 3' as well as the iconic Nicolas Cage. Cage was recently announced as playing Joe Exotic in 'The Tiger King' movie adaptation, so the 56-year-old still has a busy schedule on the horizon.
