YouTube has launched their very first Top 100 music video chart. The highest ranked clips on the video site will be ranked in order of popularity and can now be found in a sidebar along the right hand side of YouTube's music landing page at youtube.com/music.
The YouTube chart includes not only official music videos uploaded by record labels but also user-generated and viral content. There are now concerns that copyright issues on such clips will distort the chart rankings, although this is unlikely to have too much effect on user experience because of the system's convenience as an online pop playlist. Users will have the option to play the chart hits in groups of ten, or to play the whole top twenty right through in sequence.
YouTube also recently a live concert streaming channel, which launched with footage from Coachella festival.
Speaking of online music video charts, from next week we'll be bringing you the Irish top 40 videos in association with muzu.tv right here on entertainment.ie.
