Legendary British guitarist Wilko Johnson will play the closing night of the Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival in Co. Donegal this May.
The one-time Dr. Feelgood guitarist (and Ilyn Payne from Game of Thrones, if you're nerdy like us) will play with his band at the Big Top in Ballyshannon Town Centre on May 31st.
Johnson's band includes Norman Roy-Watt of The Blockheads and drummer Dylan Howe, and it'll be his only Irish festival appearance in 2015.
"I am delighted to have the opportunity to come to Rory’s birthplace and honour the great G-man; I wanted to do the gig last year, but I had medical issues to sort and I have battled back," said Johnson, who was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer in late 2012, but is now cancer-free after radical surgery removed a 3kg tumor last year. "It’s going to be a superb festival."
This year is the 20th Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival, which honours the Ballyshannon-born blues-rock legend. It runs from May 28th - 31st, with more 'legendary international acts' to be announced in the coming weeks, according to organisers.
Tickets for the final night - which features Wilko Johnson & His Band, Band of Friends, Johnny Gallagher & Boxtie Band and Laurence Jones & Band, are on sale now via this link.
