So that's the last long bank holiday weekend for a while gone by. Were you stuck in the floods? Or relaxing in sunny, sunny Bantry (like me, hee hee!) Whatever you were up to, I hope you enjoyed yisserselves and aren't suffering too much.

There are still a few days of summer left and Ireland has found brilliant ways to fill them. The Dublin Horse Fair is on this weekend and from August 8th the Kilkenny Arts Festival will be in full swing. There's loads of other stuff on too, read on for a taster.

Friday, August 8th

What? Exhibition: Irish Silent Films (1910 - 1915)

This really interesting exhibition opens on Friday. Classic Ireland-centric film shorts; The Lad from Old Ireland, Rory O'More; The Colleen Bawn; His Mother; You Remember Ellen; Brennan of the Moor; For Ireland's Sake; Ireland a Nation; and Bold Emmett, Ireland's Martyr, will play in sequence over the day.

Liam Ó Maonlaí of the Hothouse Flowers plays the iconic Kilkenny location as part of the Kilkenny Arts Festival. A highlight of tonight's show will be his Irish incantation in the sean nós style on Irish artist Róisín de Buitléar's glass instruments.

Samuel Beckett's tradicomedy in two acts follow Vladimir and Estragon as they wait endlessly for the arrival of Godot.  Beckett’s play pioneered an expressionistic minimalism that captured the existential post World War II Europe and man’s inexhaustible search for meaning.
