Just when you think he can't possibly dig that hole any deeper... he finds a way. Kanye West and his new BFF Donald Trump have a lot in common, in that respect.

The rapper's latest faux-pas has seriously angered a lot of people after he claimed that the centuries of slavery inflicted upon black people in the USA was their 'choice'.

He was taking part in a live webchat with TMZ when he said: "You hear about slavery for 400 years. 400 years? That sounds like a choice. 400 years and it’s all of y’all?"

He then tried to backtrack by saying: "It’s like we’re mentally in prison. I like the word prison because slavery goes too direct to the idea of blacks. Like holocaust – Jews. Slavery is blacks. Prison is something that unites us as one race, blacks and whites."

He even managed to offend the TMZ staff member Van Lathan, who told him: "You’re entitled to your opinion. But there is fact and real word consequence behind everything you just said. And while you’re living the life you earned by being a genius, the rest of us in society have to deal with these threats to our lives.

"We have to deal with the marginalisation that’s come from the 400 years of slavery that you said for our people was a choice. Frankly, I’m disappointed, I’m appalled, and brother, I am unbelievably hurt."
