The world is a strange and mysterious place sometimes - so strange and mysterious, in fact, that one of the best-known authors of the 20th century can recite lyrics by a Canadian rapper and make it sound like poetry.

That's what Salman Rushdie (author of 'The Satantic Verses', general literary giant) did recently in Toronto when he was promoting his latest tome.

The author took on several of Drake's lyrics, reading them like 'free verse', and it was sort of brilliant. It's like Ian McKellen reciting Taylor Swift lyrics all over again.

Needless to say, he wasn't familiar with Drake but that makes it all the better, particularly on lines like 'You was poppin' back when Usher wore a u-chain".
