Questions regarding security and public safety at festivals in the UK and Ireland are being raised once more after two men were stabbed "during a brawl" at the Parklife Weekender festival in Manchester's Heaton Park over the weekend.

One of the victims was taken to hospital with "serious but non-life threatening injuries" and remains in a stable condition, while the other victim was treated and released by medical personnel on site. Two further men were arrested in connection with the serious assault.

According to the city's Chief Inspector Gary Simpson, "There have been a few isolated incidents at Parklife Weekender Festival which we believed have involved a weapon and caused injuries to five men. As a result, GMP have instigated an investigation which has resulted in two men being arrested at the venue."

This will of course bring back memories of the ill-fated Swedish House Mafia concert in Dublin's Phoenix Park where seven people were stabbed, causing concerns over how effective security screenings are at large-scale concerts of this kind.

The Parklife Weekender saw performances from Rudimental, Snoop Dogg, Foals any many more over the weekend.
