Vicar Street will host an array of top acts on December 19th to raise much-needed funds for the Philippines Emergency Appeal, since Typhoon Haiyan devasted large parts of the Philippines over a week ago.
Confirmed to appear so far are Tommy Tiernan, Lisa O'Neill, Ardal O'Hanlon, Barry Murphy, Eleanor Tiernan, Colum McDonnell with a more names to be added in the coming weeks.
Speaking from the Philippines, Plan Ireland’s Dualta Roughneen said: "The situation on the ground here is extremely stark. Our colleagues in some of the worst hit zones have reported dead bodies littered by the side of the road mixed in with the rubbish and children begging in the streets. All of Plan’s programme areas have been hit. Plan has over 40,000 sponsored children in the country, with 170 children in the Philippines sponsored by Irish people.
The challenge now is to start getting aid to the right people in the right areas. Plan Ireland is already dispatching supplies of tents, plastic sheeting and tarpaulins. However, clean water, medicines and tents are desperately needed, so we are urging people to donate what they can. Even before the Typhoon struck we had pre-positioned emergency clean water and plastic sheeting for 20,000 people, but this isn't enough."
Tickets for the show (and very, very good cause) are available now for just €28.
