98FM's campaign to find Ireland's greatest band saw four piece rock band The Yips beat four other finalists to become 98FM’s Brand New Act. The station received a huge number of entries from bands all over the country to showcase their talent and The Yips were announced as the winners taking 48% of the vote on the station's Totally Irish show on Sunday night.

As part of their overall prize ‘The Yips’ have won the opportunity to support Paddy Casey and This Club at the Workman’s Club this Thursday 26th of April at Totally Irish Live. Their song will also be play listed and they won two days recording time in Windmill Lane Studios.

The Yips are a four piece rock band from Dublin with blues and funk influences who all study Commercial Music at DIT Frances Street. The bands, who are all aged 19, include Roisin Doyle (lead vocals), Steven McCann (guitar and vocals), Cathal McKenna (bass and vocals) and Bev King (drums) met in October 2011 at the new music college BIMM Dublin. After the first term, they jammed together for the first time and found they had a unique sound together – bringing together influences like Led Zeppelin, The Black Keys, Band Of Skulls and early Red Hot Chili Peppers. In March they played their first gig at the Button Factory to a great response and have since been rehearsing hard to get a setlist together for a summer of gigging around Dublin and further afield.
