The Killers' drummer Ronnie Vannucci has announced that it's time for The Killers to "take a breather", sparking fears that the band could spend a prolonged period of time away from the limelight or, as some fear mongers might predict, that this could lead to the band calling it quits.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Vannucci was questioned about their plans for the length of the hiatus and said: "I think it will be a little while. I don't think it'll take an unnaturally long time for us to get guys together, [but] it's time to take a breather and ground out a little bit."

"I think everybody is looking forward to putting their feet up for a little while and have some normalcy."

It's important to note that there has been no official indication that the Killers are thinking of calling it quits but the band's frontman Brandon Flowers had previously revealed that he intends to focus on his solo material indefinitely, while Vanucci also indicated that he wants to produce a follow-up to his Big Talk album.

"In 2011, I made a record", he said. "I think I want to make another record. I'm already starting it. I like to keep moving. I love the notion of momentum. I think some of the guys are going to chill out, keep writing probably, make sure to get some rest."

Vanucci promises that his new release will sound "somewhere between ZZ Top and Tron" and if we are faced with a prolonged absence of the Killers, something with a crazy description like that might just fill the void.
