It won't come as much of a surprise to learn that Daft Punk got pretty lucky at last night's 56th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.
The French electronic duo bagged a total of five awards, including the much coveted Album of the Year for Random Access Memories and Record of the Year for their smash hit 'Get Lucky'. Another duo who will have to find extra space on their mantelpiece today are Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, who also won four gongs including best new artist and, rather originally, 34 couples married on stage during their performance of 'Same Love' - a ceremony presided over by Queen Latifah and Madonna. Sure, why not?
Speaking to the assembled press afterwards, singer, actor, monarch and now apparently minister, Queen Latifah said:
"To be able to do something special for people, to change someone's life is what I was able to do tonight. I took it very seriously, I didn't enter into it lightly. It's not about TV or ratings, this was something real for me."
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, meanwhile, told the AP that they were overwhelmed by the moment and revealed that Macklemore's sister was part of one of the couples who got married on stage during their performance.
"You never think you are going to win a Grammy," Macklemore said "It is that thing that is so distant, it's the pinnacle, it's the apex, to be able to celebrate same love. My sister getting married tonight was so personal, I still have chills now."
17 year old Lorde became the third youngest Grammy winner for song of the year and best pop solo performance but is still a relative veteran when you consider that LeAnn Rimes and Luis Miguel picked up Grammys at the tender age of 14.
Elsewhere at the Grammys, there was a great moment when Taylor Swift erroneously thought she has won best album and a pretty x-rated performance of 'Drunk In Love' by Beyonce and Jay Z.
