While each of their previous four albums has had its moments, Rings Around The World sounds like the classic record Super Furry Animals have always promised to make. Long regarded as one of the most inventive bands on the art-rock scene, the Welsh wizards have really excelled themselves with this headspinningly diverse mix of spacey psychedelia, pop harmonies, vaudeville orchestras and delicate lullabies. It's also the first album to be simultaneously released on DVD, where each of the 13 songs is accompanied by a specially commissioned film. Music this good doesn't really need any such gimmicks but having said that, Paul McCartney's guest appearance is probably the weirdest one he'll ever make - which, in the crazy world of SFA land, seems entirely appropriate.
