Two members of Cavan's The Strypes have secured a pretty exciting extra-curricular gig for themselves. Guitarist Josh McClorey and bassist Pete O'Hanlon have been asked by Mod legend Paul Weller to provide backing for him at his London show this weekend, as part of the Record Store Day festivities.
The pair, both aged just 17, will join Weller for his show at Rough Trade East this weekend, flanked Jay Sharrock (who performs with Miles Kane) for two new Weller compositions 'Flame-Out' and 'The Olde Original'.
Manager of The Strypes, Niall Walsh, was quoted by The Herald as saying: "It all goes back to a show the boys did supporting Paul at Abbey Road studio last November. He loved their sound and Paul's manager rang up and asked if Pete and Josh would be up for backing him at a gig."
Walsh, who is the father of Strypes drummer Evan, continued: "We've got a gig in Bournemouth the night before and then we're off to Paul's. The boys are thrilled, but I'm over the moon - I was a huge fan of The Jam."
Regular readers of these pages will know that I've been going on about this guys for the past twelve months since I first saw them at their EP launch last April and it's good to see that I'm not alone in my praise for the teenagers. Not only Weller, but Elton John and Dave Grohl are bona-fide fans too.
