Rumours surfaced last week that Steven Tyler was to leave his long time post as frontman of Aerosmith, after an interview with Classic Rock Magazine, in which Tyler admitted that he had solo projects in the pipeline.
"I don't know what I’m doing yet, but it’s definitely going to be something Steven Tyler: working on the brand of myself – Brand Tyler... Once the band hit the final note and I walk off stage - then I'll tell you the whole story"

Now the split is looking increasingly likely, as guitarist Joe Perry told The Las Vegas Sun that he had discovered on the internet that Tyler had quit.
"Steven quit as far as I can tell. I don't know any more than you do about it. I got off the plane two nights ago. I saw online that Steven said that he was going to leave the band. I don't know for how long, indefinitely or whatever. Other than that, I don't know."

Apparently, Tyler walked out after a performance in Abu Dhabi last month and has not been in touch with the rest of the band since, even refusing to take their phone calls.

Meanwhile, guitarist Brad Whitford has admitted that the band would consider replacing Tyler with a new vocalist.
"Nobody could replace Steven or imitate him – he's one of a kind. But if somebody was willing to do it and the chemistry was right, why not?"

**Updated**

Steve Tyler joined Perry onstage on Tuesday night for an encore version of 'Walk This Way', and announced to the crowd 'I Am Not Leaving Aerosmith'. He also directed this very classy gem towards Perry himself 'You are a man of many colours, but I am a m****r f*****g rainbow.' Of course you are Steven. Following that little stunt, Perry spoke to Billboard.com about the whole debacle, saying that it 'really didn't change anything'. He also explained that Tyler 'said he wanted two years off to do his other projects' and that the rest of the band were 'not going to wait for Steven'.

It's all beginning to sound like one big publicity stunt really. Does anyone even care?
