It's been nine years since the Stereo MC's released an album and in many ways the most amazing thing about Deep Down And Dirty is how little their music seems to have changed. The London DJ duo's artful mixture of hip-hop, soul and scratchy samples is still intact, topped with a funky pop sensibility that is uniquely British. Old fans who were expecting something a bit more radical may well be disappointed. But while it may not be pushing back any boundaries, it's a worthy follow-up to 1992's Connected and, if nothing else, should provide teenagers with a ready supply of ringtones for the rest of the decade.
