Irish singers Sharon Corr, Cathy Davey and Colin Devlin will perform at the US-Ireland Alliance’s seventh annual Oscar Wilde: Honoring the Irish in Film. The event will be held on 23 February at Bad Robot, J.J. Abrams’ Santa Monica production company. The event will honor Academy Award nominees - John Logan, Melissa McCarthy and Michelle Williams. Kenneth Branagh will be a presenter.
Trina Vargo, president of the non-profit US-Ireland Alliance, welcomed the addition of music to the evening: "Sharon, Cathy and Colin are three very talented artists. I know the guests will greatly enjoy them and I hope this event will expose them to many people who aren’t already familiar with them." The event has a history of being of great place for enhancing careers. Irish singers Paddy Casey and SJ McArdle received recording contracts after the event. Laura Izibor met her manager the night she performed.
After Jim Brooks was honored at the event, he included Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova (who performed on the night he was honored) in an episode of The Simpsons. After actress Fiona Shaw saw Duke Special perform at the event, she asked the Belfast singersongwriter to join her on the stage at the National Theatre in London in a production of Mother Courage. In a recent interview, Duke Special said of the Oscar Wilde event, "the whole direction of my career changed that night."
