At this time of year, we're used to hearing Shane MacGowan's voice on a regular basis, as The Pogues' much-loved 'Fairytale of New York' is difficult to avoid.
However, this time the singer is in the news for a more concerning reason as he has been hospitalised, according to his wife.
Victoria Mary Clarke broke the news to fans on Twitter yesterday, revealing that MacGowan was in hospital and 'hoping to get out ASAP', asking for 'prayers and healing vibes'. She did not, however, go into detail on the reason for his hospital stay.
The 64-year-old musician, who lives in Dublin, has used a wheelchair since fracturing his pelvis after a fall in 2015. He has suffered from health problems over the years related to his binge drinking, but has reportedly been sober since 2016, according to Clarke.
Fans responded on Twitter, sending good vibes to MacGowan - many of them musicians, including Sharon Shannon and Doves, and 'Trainspotting' author Irvine Welsh:
Get well soon Shane x

Not at Christmas, the man is the sound of Christmas and the line "you're the measure of my dreams" are the words I dream a man will finally think of me one day. He sings to my soul, I hope he recovers swiftly and not too much discomfort
