A change of direction for Saint Etienne as they move away from pure pop in the direction of mildly experimental disco ballads. Sadly this album confirms that the London trio are the great underachievers of the indie scene - once again they've made an album which desperately wants to be profound but just sounds contrived. The sad truth is that there's no point in having flashy window dressing if the product inside is downright shoddy.
