After months of rumours and speculation, Mark Ronson has admitted that a new collaboration with Amy Winehouse is a reality. The pair have recorded a cover of the Lesley Gore's 1963 song 'It's My Party', which was made famous by Dave Stewart and Barbara Gaskin in1981. Work began on the song in 2008, and it is set to appear to a tribute album to iconic producer Quincy Jones, who had his first hit single with Gore's original.
Speaking to BBC Newsbeat, Ronson said, "It's quite funny to come off of my album where the whole tag line, or thing we told ourselves, was no covers, no horns and then to do a very Amy-sounding record like that."
Winehouse also joined Ronson onstage at last night's London show where he was launching his new band The Business Intl and their upcoming new album 'Record Collection' which is due for release in September. Amy arrive towards the end of the set and performed the favourite Zutons cover 'Valerie' as part of the encore, reportedly forgetting most of the words.
There are also rumours that Winehouse plans to form a new supergroup with Raphael Saadiq and Roots drummer ?uestlove. According to The Sun, ?uestlove has said the project is only slow to get off the ground because Amy has been denied entry to the US because of her 2007 arrest for possession of marijuana.
"The group will definitely happen. It's just the closest she can come to the States is Jamaica ... I'm off to France soon so I'll see if she's up for discussing it over dinner. We're Skype-ing the s**t out of each other."
Sounds like pie in the sky but if it does happen it'll be freakin' deadly.
