The first album from Rod the Mod since he underwent voice-threatening throat surgery is, amazingly enough, his best for nearly twenty years. With the help of some leading RandB-pop producers and songwriters, including Metro (Enrique Iglesias), Rick Nowels (Madonna) and Gregg Alexander of the New Radicals, as well as guest stars such as Slash and Macy Gray, Human comes remarkably close to giving the Scottish ham an artistic resurrection. His vocal performance is as warm and soulful as it's ever been and it's well suited to these smooth, mid-tempo ballads. While it's ultimately one to file under easy listening, Human is a certainly far more enjoyable than the cynics would have you expect.
