Donovan is one of the most famous names in the history of folk music and will play the Olympia Theatre in Dublin on Saturday 26th October to celebrate the release of his latest album Shadows of Blue, which saw the Scot return to record in Nashville where he began his US recording career in the mid-60's.
"It is an historic return to Nashville as my North American recording career began there in 1965 when my first single 'Catch The Wind' was released on Hickory Records and reached Number 3 in the Pop Charts", Donovan was recently quoted as saying.
The song was a huge success and was recorded by the likes of Chet Atkins and Glen Campbell, but Donovan's rendition remains the most iconic version and acted as the launchpad for a music career that has extended to almost four decades.
"I was accepted by the country music world and was 18 years old", Donovan said. "I never forgot Nashville and knew I would go back there one day with a set of songs I have kept in my back jeans pocket."
Throughout his career, Donovan has shared the stage with many musical legends, including folk greats Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, John Sebastian and Bob Dylan, as well as rock guitarists Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck. In 2003 Donovan was awarded a doctorate of letters by St. Albans University in recognition of his contribution to poetry and songwriting. Recently, Donovan's success has continued with his album Beat Café and a new CD box set "Try for the Sun: The Journey of Donovan".
Tickets to see Donovan this Saturday are available through usual outlets nationwide, priced at €23.
