You may have read in recent days that it was Van Morrison's 70th birthday yesterday.

The iconic musician celebrated his milestone on Monday by playing two huge outdoor gigs on a street that he has a long association with - Cyprus Avenue in Belfast, which was immortalised in song on his album 'Astral Weeks.'

He played two gigs on Monday at 3pm and 6pm, and needless to say, the demand for both was through the roof.

They also drew some recognisable faces, including actors Robert Pattinson, Tom Sturridge, Kim Catrall (Samantha from Sex and the City), musician and BBC radio DJ Cerys Matthews, former Formula 1 driver Eddie Irvine and Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde.

Pattinson has made no bones about his admiration for Morrison in the past, even covering his song 'I'll Be Your Lover, Too'.

According to Belfast Live, Irish artist/documentarian Marcus Robinson was also at the gig, as well as celebrity chef Rick Stein and author Ian Rankin.

If you weren't lucky enough to be there and rub shoulders with the aforementioned celebs, Van Morrison also plays Dublin's 3Arena on November 20th.
