The rock star told Rolling Stone last month that he was "looking forward to the death of rap" and "looking forward to music coming back to lyrics and melody, instead of just talking", suggesting that a hip-hop group did not belong in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.

In response, MC Ren from NWA called him out during their speech, saying "I want to say to Mr. Gene Simmons that hip-hop is here forever. Now, Ice Cube has responded to his comments by appearing on Howard Stern's radio show and saying: "Everybody's got their own opinions and Gene, he's an OG in the game, but he's just wrong on this."
