The Guardian is reporting that former Fugee and successful solo artist Wyclef Jean is contemplating a bid for the Haitian presidency. Wyclef, a Haitian national, was appointed in 2007 to the role of Ambassador-at-Large by President Rene Preval during his final term. Wyclef was born in the surrounding areas of Port-au-Prince, which was recently devastated by the earthquake, but left as a child and was raised in Brooklyn, New York. The singer has been quite prominent and vocal about his eventual political intentions and has been very active in raising money for the Haitian disaster relief fund. In order to be eligible for election, Wyclef will have to prove that he has lived in Haiti for five successive years and has never been a citizen of any other country. If Wyclef wins the presidency he'll be faced with the mammoth task of rebuilding a country decimated by natural disaster.
